Jede WhatsApp-Nachricht der weltweit 1,5 Milliarden Nutzer läuft über die Server des US-Unternehmens. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Unternehmen wie Facebook & Co speichert dieses laut der AGB nicht die Nachrichten selbst, sondern deren Metadaten – wer zu welchem Zeitpunkt mit wem kommuniziert.
Die PatternApp generiert anhand meiner persönlichen WhatsApp-Chatverläufe ein Muster pro Tag. Die Größe der Musterflächen variiert nach Kommunikationsmenge und gibt Aufschluss über die zeitliche Nachrichtenabfolge, beginnend von oben mit der ersten Nachricht des Tages. Anhand der Flächengröße und Farbe kann man die Menge der versendeten Zeichen und Absender ablesen. Durch 2D- und 3D-Ansichten wird es möglich die Tagesmuster zu vergleichen und sich ein Bild über mein Kommunikationsverhalten zu machen.
1.5 billion users in 180 countries makes WhatsApp the most-popular messaging app in the world. In contrast to other social media platforms like Facebook & Co, WhatsApp does not save the messages themselves, but the metadata – who communicates with whom at what time.
PatternApp generates a pattern per day based on my personal WhatsApp chat history. The size of the pattern varies according to the amount of communication and provides information about the temporal message sequence, starting on the top with the first message of the day. The size and color of each section communicate the amount of sent signs and sender. 2D and 3D views make it possible to compare the different patterns of each day and get an idea of my personal communication behavior.
